The Soft Side of Selvedge: Meet the Max Brush

We’ve taken our classic left-hand twill denim and transformed it into something truly special. Starting with a familiar base, we’ve reworked the weave into a broken twill, giving the fabric a more irregular, back-and-forth pattern that offers a distinct texture. From there, we’ve raked and brushed the surface to create an exceptionally soft, plush feel. The result is what we’re calling the Max Brush Selvedge — a denim that’s cozy on the outside yet built to wear in beautifully over time.

Even though the fabric starts off nearly identical to our left-hand twill, the broken twill construction sets it apart. This weaving technique introduces a unique texture, less uniform than the traditional diagonal twill, and it pairs perfectly with the heavy brushing treatment we’ve applied. Garrett will show some of the close-up texture in the B-roll so you can see just how much character this denim has.

The main idea behind this project was to make a fabric that feels soft and luxurious to the touch without sacrificing the ability to fade. This is still a rope-dyed, dark indigo Japanese selvedge denim at its core. It weighs in at 13.75 ounces, just like our original left-hand twill, and will break in and fade the more you wear it.

We also paid attention to the details. The patch has been updated from a tough full-grain leather to a soft split suede, matching the overall cozy vibe of the fabric. This denim is 100 percent cotton and still features a selvedge edge, visible when you flip the cuff. It’s the same clean selvedge ID as before, just with a brushed finish. Of course, it also includes our signature Union Special chain-stitched hems.

This new release is all about comfort and character. It’s soft, warm, and textured, perfect for the upcoming fall season. Whether you’re dressing it down and wearing it hard or pairing it with a blazer for a more refined look, this denim stands out. It’s got a subtle luxury to it and an unmistakably unique feel that makes a statement.
